All-island Obesity Action Forum Workshop 20th June 2017: Stigma in obesity – a public health priority?
This workshop will be hosted by the All-island Obesity Action Forum and supported bysafefood, the Association for the Study of Obesity on the island of Ireland and the Association for the Study of Obesity (UK). The workshop will take place in the NICVA Centre in Belfast on the 20th of June, 2017.
The theme of this workshop is ‘Stigma in obesity – a public health priority?’. The workshop will include a range of speakers from across the UK and Ireland, who will discuss the latest research around obesity and stigma. The speakers will present on weight bias in a number of settings. Delegates will also be given the opportunity to listen to the personal story of those who have experienced bias around their weight. Learning how stigma is being tackled in other areas like mental health will conclude the event alongside a presentation on effective communication strategies.
This event will be of interest to those working in obesity-related areas in the voluntary community sector, academia, industry and government departments.
