Health and Technology Obesity Forum Workshop

The latest obesity forum workshop was held in the MAC theatre in Belfast on Tuesday 14th June and focussed on technology and health. 67 delegates attended and postitive feedback was received from all those in attendance.
Prof Cliona Ni Mhurchu who leads the Nutrition Research Programme at the University of Auckland was our keynote speaker and she commenced the workshop with an overview of technologies currently in use in New Zealand to monitor changes in the nutritional composition of the food supply over time, consumers purchasing habits and consumption patterns. 

Additional speakers presented on a range of different interventions and technologies including a physical activity loyalty scheme, an app desigend to reduce the incidence of gestational diabetes in pregnancy thorugh the provision of lifestyle advice, a vibrating fork designed to encourage consumers to eat at a slower pace and finally technologies which can be used to supplement and  improve the accuracy of self-reported sedentary behaviour in older adults.

Presentations from the day will be available here in the coming weeks. The next workshop will be held in Dublin on the 8th November 2016 and will focus on the role of appetite in obesity.
